DESCRIPTION The Phantom Limbs from Oakland, California have subjected West Coast punk, goth, metal, and indie audiences alike to their psychosis with equal appreciation since the late 90's. Eerie grinding keyboards, sporadic guitar interjections, thundering drums, a driving bass, grotesque lyricism and shrieking detached vocals coalesce into a severed, disjointed tribute to isolation. Displacement is an album that achieves both tranquility and vivid ferocity with equal ardor. Conjuring images of early 1940's horror cinema and roadside circus magicians, their music is a swirling amalgamation of old school punk, deathrock, and no wave mixed with the theatre songs of Kurt Weil, or Gilbert and Sullivan gone terribly wrong. Pleasing punk, new wave, hardcore and deathrock audiences allover Europe and the US, their live shows have become stuff of legend with singer Hopeless invariably naked or covered in substances of various origin, sometimes going so far as to handcuff himself to unsuspecting fans. Like a carnival sideshow, The Phantom Limbs thrive equally on the awe and anxiety of the crowd. DISCOGRAPHY .020 DISPLACEMENT; CD_2003 .016 MONO BRUTAL.; 7" + COMIC BOOK _2002 |
